It is more difficult to choose well-fitting and suitable sandals than with other shoes. The reason is simple, an open sandal will reveal missing or excess space more than a full shoe.

So measure your foot correctly, don't overdo it with the oversize, open shoes can tolerate a smaller margin. In addition, children usually wear them for about 3-4 months, when there is less likelihood of intense growth.

You should consider whether you need the most airy open sandals or sportier sandals, that have a full toe protecting your foot.

Comparison of basic parameters of sandals

Compare the shapes of the soles with the shape of the foot. They differ in overall length and width, of course, but also in the space in the toe area, the degree of bevel to the little toe, the width in the heel. It is ideal if the shoe follows the shape of the foot as closely as possible.

On the foot

Sandals in size 28 were photographed on a 172 x 69 mm foot. You would need a bigger or smaller size for some brands (that's why we also recommend measuring, because it is obvious that sometimes shoes of size 28 are small, sometimes just right and sometimes big), but it is all photographed in the same size for a simple overview. The model's foot is average in the heel and around the ankles, slightly higher in the instep.

• the toes are protected and the toe cap is covered by a rubber overlay, which increases durability
• it is not a barefoot shoe, the sole is more robust and lightly shaped, the heel is raised, there is a slight increase under the toes

• sole flexible in the direction of walking, but stiff under the heel
• suitable for average ankle and heel
• can be tightened well even on narrow ankles

Keen Knotch

• popular sports outdoor sandals, similar to the model on CNX sole
• the knotch is a little wider in the toe area and suitable for a chubbier foot
• they are slightly wider and higher in the instep, having more room behind the heel and are looser around the ankles

Bobux

• sandals for overall long/narrow feet in the toe and heel
• toe is anatomically shaped but narrow, not suitable for fin shaped toes
• narrow in the heel, rather average in the ankle
• 3 mm flexible sole with 1 mm pattern
• they look sporty, but they are more like walking sandals, not recommended for wet weather and sports
• the toes are protected by leather, less breathable
• without heel counter, but in the area behind the heel and below the ankles there are more layers of leather and they are slightly firmer
• Inside, soft microfiber, comfortable
• padded in the ankles, fits well, no rubbing

D.D.Step

• sportier cut of sandals for chubby feet
• toe is roomy but not ideally shaped for the dominant big toe
• the rubber extends over the toe, which protects the toe box
• made of synthetic leather, microfiber inside
• not suitable for contact with water
• recommended for higher ankles and wider heel and ankles
• the sole is more robust, yet well flexible

Koel

• Koel are very open sandals based on the principle of flip-flops, which means, they are attached between the toes, but they are also attached to the sole behind the heel and in the instep, so they fit well
• the ankle strap is adjustable with a buckle, behind the heel is Velcro, they adapt perfectly to the foot and are easy to slip on
• the toe is anatomically shaped and very roomy, they are the widest sandals in the comparison because the space is no longer taken up by the straps on the side
• we recommend minimizing the oversize on a shoe this open
• the sole is 4 mm vibram with 1 mm pattern + cork, very comfortable on the foot 3 mm layer
• zero drop
• leather straps on the outside and inside

Bundgaard

• Bundgaard are spacious and ideally anatomically shaped for the dominant big toe
• airy open sandals for wide feet
• rather wider around the heel and higher at the instep, generally suitable for a thicker leg
• the ankle straps are both velcro, yet we recommend the sandals for higher ankles and wider ankles, they are not ideal for narrow feet
• behind the heel, the strap is cushioned for maximum comfort
